So I was going to talk about this General Zod clip Warner Bros. released the other day. But I got scooped when today they just released the final Man of Steel trailer.
Holy Shit.
That was fucking beautiful. Perfect encapsulation of what makes Superman great. Music and visuals coming together amazingly to show off the movie. This just looks better with every new trailer. But two things in this trailer stood out to me...
First, Lois Lane. Not only are we finally getting a glimpse of her but also her motivation. Unlike other incarnations, she seems to be actively hunting Superman down which makes sense. She is an investigative reporter after all. But this change does bring up an interesting question. Just how much does she know about Clark Kent before they meet? Does she know he's Superman? If so, this could be an indication they're not going with the traditional secret identity love triangle (Clark loves Lois, but Lois loves Superman) and I'd be happy with the filmmakers dropping that bit sexist Silver Age malarkey.
Also Amy Adams gets Lois. That scene at the end about the "S"? On the money Lois Lane snark.
Second, General Zod. I'm a little confused by him right now. Not the direction Michael Shannon is going with the character, that's spot-on. But what his backstory is. In the viral clip I linked to, he says Superman is one of his citizens and is bringing him in. So is Krypton still around? Did he come from the Phantom Zone like normal? I have a guess. At 2:15 we can see Zod and presumably some of his followers in chains. If the dialogue is any indication, he's yelling at Jor-el after he sent Baby Superman off to Earth. My guess is that this is right before Krypton blows up and he's being sent to the Phantom Zone. Somehow he'll be released on Earth later and no one will tell him Krypton blew up. Just my guess right now.
Okay Man of Steel, you're looking good. Here's hoping you deliver.
