Wrong of Spring: A review

SPOILERS AHEAD

Sometimes you read the premise of a movie and think, "Huh, that's original and could be really interesting" Then you watch the actual movie and it sucks? That happened to me the other day. Buckle up dear reader, I'm going to tell you about Origin: Spirits of the Past

This is what I get browsing Netflix at 2 in the morning.

The interesting premise? In the future, humanity has been doing experiments genetically modifying plant life on the moon. Unfortunately, something went wrong and the experiment went out of control destroying part of the moon. Following that catastrophe the plants return to Earth, mutated into a sentient life form and supplanting humanity as the dominant life form of the planet. Now Toola, a girl cryogenically frozen before the disaster, has awakened to this strange new world. And she holds the power to either restore the Earth or destroy it.

Happy Birthday William Shatner!

I don't think anything else needs to be said...

Sundance Kid to join SHIELD

From Badass Digest

Thanks to the few billion dollars The Avengers brought in, Marvel Studios seems even more attractive to Hollywood than it did before. Case in point, 70s cinema legend Robert Redford is in talks to appear in a Marvel movie, no word which one yet.

To put this in context, The Founder of the Sundance Film Festival wants to be in a Marvel Superhero movie. It's a brave new world folks.

According to the report, Redford would be playing a high-ranking SHIELD official. Just personally, I hope Devin Faraci's theory is right and he's the old white Nick Fury from the 60s because Nick Fury is just a code name like that old theory about James Bond. That'd be so cool.

Do the Batusi!

From Comics Alliance

Proof that DC Comics occasionally does something right. They announced today a digital-only comic based on the classic Adam West Batman series from the 60s.

Yes. Yes. YES. Despite its bad reputation, the Adam West series is one of the classic representations of the character and is responsible for Batman's notoriety outside of comics. Not to mention it's awesome, just campy and fun in a way Batman isn't allowed to be anymore. Jeff Parker, one of Marvel's better writers in recent years is set to handle story with Jonathan Case on Art and Michael Allred of Madman fame doing covers.

No word yet on release, but I can't wait.

Review of the Jedi: Season Wrap-up

Another season of galactic adventure come and gone. It's certainly been exciting and I've had fun bringing you my thoughts and opinions on the show. But with all the lightsabers put away, let's look back on this season's episodes and see how it stacks as a whole.

Shall we?

Batman Begins (again)

Breaking news: DC Comics to retell story everyone already knows.

It was announced today that with the New 52 shaking everything in the DC universe, Batman's origin is getting revamped. Why? Fuck if I know. This is coming courtesy of current Batman writer Scott Snyder, who's been knocking it out of the park since he took over the title, so I'm pissed the guy's talent is being wasted on this dumbassery.

DC, I want to like you. But you have to give me a reason to.

Happy Birthday Douglas Adams!

Back in middle school, I picked up a weird British Sci-fi novel to do a book report on. That book was The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and it became one of my favorite books of all time.

Thank you Mr. Adams and Happy Birthday

Whedon does Shaxper

So you're Joss Whedon. You've just finished making billions of dollars and the greatest superhero movie ever, The Avengers. What do you do now? Apparently you get your friends together and make a black & white Shakespeare adaptation.

Works for me.

Review of the Jedi: The Wrong Jedi

Join the Serial Wordsmith every Monday as he recaps and reviews the new season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars

UPDATE: This review was originally posted with the wrong episode title. It has since been corrected.

All right dear readers, we've had a fun ride but we're finally at the season finale. And I can honestly say things on Clone Wars will never be the same after this one. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Let's catch up with the plot. Ahsoka has been framed for murder and a terrorist attack on the Jedi. While trying to prove her innocence, she was attacked by someone she thought was Asajj Ventress and caught looking red-handed by Anakin. Now she's imprisoned in the Jedi Temple awaiting trial.

Tarkin calls up the Council and says a Jedi trial isn't good enough, because there's no way Jedi can be fully impartial to another Jedi, so the Senate has ordered that Ahsoka must have a military trial. What a dick. Obi-Wan objects but the Council has no choice but to agree. If they don't, it'll seem like they're going soft on a suspected traitor and public opinion of the Jedi will dip even lower. While I agree with Obi-Wan, I see where the Council is coming from. When people are protesting outside your building, making yourself look worse won't help.

The Council isn't happy about this either. But they do what they have to and give Ahsoka her trial. They don't want to, but there's just not enough evidence to prove her innocence. So they expunge her from the Order and send her on her way. All this just pisses Anakin off to no end, so after bringing in Padme to act as Ahsoka's lawyer he goes to track down Ventress and find the truth. Things are about to get Vader-y up in here

More after the break,
