Yeah, this is going to need some explaining.
Above is a trailer for Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, the most cracked out hypersexualized whackadoo insane anime series I have ever seen. And I love it.
Created by the mad artists of Japan's Studio Gainax from an idea they had while drunk on vacation (seriously) Panty and Stocking follows the adventures of the Anarchy sisters Panty and Stocking. Yes, those are their actual names. Panty and Stocking are angels who were booted out of heaven for being unrepentant sinners* and now have to earn their way back in by killing evil spirits. Oh yeah, Panty can turn her panties into a gun and Stocking can turn her stockings into katanas. That's how they kill monsters. Overseeing the two on Earth is Father Garterbelt, a badass black priest with a giant afro and Chuck, their dog...thing that exists only to get the shit beat out of him.
I didn't make any of that up.
Drawn in an art style meant to emulate Western cartoons, Panty and Stocking is filled with innuendo, double entendre, profanity, violence, and just general over-the-top insanity. It's what you get if you distilled about a week of Adult Swim shows into a single show. It's juvenile as hell but it's not meant to be anything else. So why am I telling you about this? Because the American dub has just been released on DVD and I want to expose more people to this madness. The whole series is super easy to find subtitled online but I want to encourage the official release. That way we might get a second season.
