Comic-Con 2012 News!*

*a.k.a. Stuff from the Con I'm excited about

San Diego Comic-Con is the biggest nerd event of the year. All the big companies save their biggest stuff for this four-day convention in July and this year was no different. Not many big surprises at the con this time but still lots of exciting stuff. Unfortunately I could not attend, but this is the news I heard that I'm most excited about.

First, all the news from the Marvel Movie Universe. With the The Avengers closing out "Phase One", it's time to launch "Phase Two". The upcoming Thor and Captain America sequels got subtitles, The Dark World and The Winter Soldier respectively. But the biggest news was the two new franchises, with Edgar Wright's stalled Ant-Man movie heading forward and Guardians of the Galaxy leading into Avengers 2.

I'll explain who the hell the Guardians of the Galaxy are in a few days.

Iron Man 3 showed off Tony Stark's newest suit of armor (too much yellow IMO) and showed a sizzle reel. Said reel revealed the villain as Iron Man's classic archenemy The Mandarin played by Sir Ben Kingsley. I'm not sure how I feel about this casting. Kingsley is a good actor to be sure, but The Mandarin is so connected to China I kind of feel he should be played by a Chinese or at least Asian actor. I've always seen him played by Chow Yun-Fat, especially after he got shafted in Pirates of the Caribbean 3.

The great Neil Gaiman is returning to DC Comics and the character that made him famous with a new Sandman miniseries out in 2013. The art will be provided by J H Williams III of Batwoman and Promethea fame.

Zack Snyder's upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel showed off its official poster and some teaser footage which should be in front of Dark Knight Rises. Not much story revealed as of yet though. The poster's all right, but I don't like the texturing on the costume.

There's going to be a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comic book. Shut up, I'm excited about it.

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is returning to art duties for the new Hellboy in Hell series starting in December after only writing it since 2008. Mignola's art is incredible and Hellboy is my favorite comic series so you have no idea how happy this makes me.

Guillermo Del Toro showed off new footage from his Kaiju vs. Mecha (Giant Monsters vs. Giant Robots) movie Pacific Rim. It sounds awesome. The footage showed one of the giant robots, called Jaegers, walking through San Francisco Bay to fight a monster attacking the Golden Gate Bridge. Both are apparently huge. Can't wait for this one.

The wonderful Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel series The Legend of Korra has been picked for a second and third season. Note: This is a sequel series to the great Airbender cartoon, not the shitty Shymalan movie.

Warner Bros. got all five Batmobiles together in one place. That's not news, it's just awesome.
